A week ago our sweet "C" was admitted at the FOCOS hospital in Ghana. We were given very little information and did not really know what to expect. All we knew was on Tuesday morning she would be having a "complex spine surgery"!
We had spent some time researching the surgery she would be having. We thought we had a pretty good handle on what was going to happen...and what the risks were. What this week has thought us is...no matter what you think you know...God knows more! And no matter what her diagnosis said...it is just words on a page and God works it all for good!!
Some of the concerns we had were the possible loss of mobility. Pre-surgery "C"was extremely mobile for a child with Spina Bifida and club feet. Because of the nature of her surgery there was a possibility that the nerves could have been affected taking some of that mobility away from her. It is clear that her mobility has not been affected at all. "C" did not get the memo that she just had a complex spine surgery. She has not skipped a beat! Another concern was the possibility of developing hydrocephalus post surgery. There has been no sign of that!
Tomorrow will be 1 week post op and we hope that "C" will be discharged and brought back to HOMe either Tuesday or Wednesday. We are told that her surgical site is healing well and they are keeping her a few extra days to hopefully prevent infection after she leaves. She will be cared for at HOMe until we bring her home. There is no definite timeframe as to when this will be. It is our hope that she will be home sometime next summer. But...we are trusting that God has all those details under control.
Thank you for all the prayers that have been lifted for "C" and for our family this past week. We are so thankful to be part of such a beautiful community of God.
